SmartWings: A bit of history
The short history of Smartwings (IATA: QS & ICAO: TVS), the largest airline in the Czech Republic and the fastest growing airline in Central Europe, begins in 1997 as Travel Service Airlines and continues in December 2018 when it adppted the name of Smartwings.
The only notable Smartwings incident occurred on August 22, 2019 when a Boeing 737-800 operating the smartwings flight from Samos to Prague lost one of the engines when it was flying at 36,000 feet over the Aegean Sea in Greece. Smartwings' QS-1125 flight with 170 passengers on board managed to land without incident at Prague Airport after the pilots maneuvered, without reporting the emergency to ATC, at 24,000 feet. The authorities of the Czech Republic opened an investigation into this incident, an investigation that remains open, to debug responsibilities in such an unusual maneuver.
